ASTC
Internship

Hello. Thank you for considering ASTC!

Because ASTC is a Limited Lability Company, we are a "for-profit." Please read the 2018 Fair Labor Standards Act and the "Primary Beneficiary Test." With this Internship Program you are the Primary Beneficiary and not entitled to compensation at the conclusion of the program.

If you are still interested, please learn more About ASTC before reading below.

If not interested, please consider looking over other regional options
The ASTC Internship program is designed for High School Seniors and College Students.
Duration is about least 8-16 weeks. There is more flexibility with summer internships.
You must be enrolled in a school from our general 5 state service area.

High School: You will need to be in a club like the Future Business Leaders of America.
College: You will need to fulfill an academic requirement for a certification or degree.

ASTC will need to communicate with your academic advisor throughout the internship.

ASTC also has a Volunteer Program that may better suit your needs.

Advantages with ASTC

Make your own schedule. ASTC will set up weekly review conversations on your time.
You can change your schedule with ASTC at anytime that suits your needs.
Our Internship Program is excellent for those who have lots of initiative, and need time to conduct research for their own future academic and career goals.

ASTC will do their best to offer you opportunities for mentoring, networking, and professional development with organizations other than ASTC. We are stronger in the Southwestern Virginia area of our service region. However, you will need to initiate such networking.

Your name on the ASTC Personnel Page. From this page you will have a link to your own page on ASTC. Here you can promote yourself with links.

Your name, organization, and hours will be on the ASTC Contributors page.
If ASTC is satisfied with the Internship, you will have access to the Hall of Fame. These are annual. Your link can be edited years from now.

If you have a handicap that may one day place you as a unqualified applicant in future job applications, ASTC will do their best to help you get experience in your chosen field so that we can prove it can be done.

Disadvantages with ASTC

For 2021, ASTC does not have a brick and motor office. Furthermore, the President is the only employee. There will not be a normal office set up with you being able to network with several others.
ASTC started in Jan. 2021. We do not have much influence in our 5 state service area. Not many will know of us when we advocate for you and provide a reference in the near future.

ASTC would like to help motivated students. If you are just trying to check a box and not push yourself, this is not the organization for you.

Note
We are not set up for an internship that is a 9-5 / Mon-Fri schedule where you do the same tasks over and over. We will try and get you out of your comfort zone. We would rather you make mistakes and learn from them now so that you can reach your potential later.
